Home lost in morning fire

ST. IGNATIUS – Within minutes, flames fully engulfed a single-wide trailer home on Sunrise Boulevard near the Mission Dam turn-off at Foothill Road.
“It’s a complete loss,” said Greg Gould, St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department Safety Officer and Captain.
The fire started sometime around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20. The cause is under investigation. Two people lived in the home with their two dogs.
“Everyone is okay,” St. Ignatius Volunteer Firefighter Tana Couture said. The St. Ignatius crew responded to the scene. The Ronan Volunteer Fire Department was on standby.
Couture saw the fire from her home and ran over to help. She stayed with the victims until the fire crew arrived, which is when she put on her gear and went to work.
“We attacked the fire from the outside,” she said.
Two water trucks were brought in to quickly douse the flames in an effort to keep the fire from spreading to other homes only feet away.
“Our goal is to get it completely out,” she said. “No hot spots.”
Once the flames were brought down, the fire crew peeled the siding off several parts of the home.
“They are creating access points,” Gould said. The fire crew continued to spray water into those access points.
“Once it’s safe to go inside, we will go in and check for hot spots,” he said. “We will stay on scene until the smoke stops and the hot spots are out.”
Mission Valley Power was on the scene to turn off the power to the home. Law enforcement including the Lake County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
