RONAN – Every administrator in every school in the Ronan district from vice principals to the superintendent put on work gloves and helped the maintenance crew lay about 4,000 square feet of sod in front of K. William Harvey Elementary School on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

“We didn’t have time for seed to grow before school starts,” Superintendent Mark Johnston said before digging his shovel into the ground. He then helped put in one of the last sections of grass. The students would have trudged through mud on their way to the school’s front doors if the crew hadn’t got the job done in time. The original sod was ripped out when contractors put in electrical wiring that connected the new south side building addition to the rest of the school’s wiring.

School groundskeeper Dallas Willer said his maintenance crew spent time removing landscaping rocks and smoothing out the ground along with their regular work, but with a small staff, he wasn’t sure if they could get the sod in before school started, so administrators stepped up to help.

“I’m thankful everyone showed up today,” he said.
