Editor,

As the pundits keep reminding us: this isn’t a normal election year. One thing has been normal, though, and that is the number of calls to our home phones candidates are making. After talking with a local party official, I found out there is a way to limit those interruptions: vote by mail as soon as possible. How does that help? Candidates in Montana work from lists of registered voters, updated daily. As soon as you appear on the list as having voted, candidates focus their efforts on someone who hasn’t.

Another good reason to vote by mail: it’s over as soon as you choose it to be over. Unless you are still sitting on the fence, why not get in, get it done, and just move on? Hitting the mute button when the ads come on will be that much more satisfying. There is another plus — you know you won’t be punked by any last minute releases of faked “hacked” data, released in time to damage a candidate, but not in time to be proven false. In this year of lies upon lies, ending the requirement to listen to them seems sweet to me.

Regardless of how you choose to vote, please read up, think clearly and vote wisely.
