The purpose of the Best Beginnings Children’s Partnership Serving the Flathead Reservation and Lake County is to improve long term school readiness outcomes for all children and families in our area. And our efforts start early — even the months before a child is born can have an impact on his/her life.

This group meets four times a year for information sharing, networking, and educational opportunities, and anyone who cares about the needs of our youngest residents is invited to attend. Our group is made up of folks from many different walks of life: childcare providers and workers, health care professionals including therapists and other mental health service providers, home visitors, early childhood educators, and others. We highly encourage parents to attend, as well.

The mission of the Partnership is to create a comprehensive, coordinated early childhood system (prenatal to 8 years old) that provides a collaborative structure leading to strong partnerships to best meet and respect the needs of our diverse families.

New research is emerging about the importance of brain development in infants, and how that development can be adversely affected by witnessing violence, or by poor nutrition, or even being left in front of a TV for hours on end. Conversely, the importance of simply talking and reading to your infant can make all the difference in their lives — for the rest of their lives.

This is a crucial time for our children, and those who are a part of the Best Beginnings Children’s Partnership are making every effort to learn as much as we can about how to have the best influence on our young people’s lives — for all of our sakes.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and an informational meeting in the Shirley McDonald Hospitality Room (formerly the Camas Room) at the Joe McDonald Health Center on the Salish Kootenai College campus. We will hear about ACA enrollment and also learn from Dana Eisenberg, a licensed clinical social worker with the Trauma Resource Institute, about ways to build resilience in our children.

Future BBCP meetings will be held in the conference room at Mission Valley Power in Pablo. All meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and networking; the informational part of the meetings lasts from 9 to 11 a.m. Future meetings will be held on March 14, June 13 and Sept. 12, 2017. For more information please call 406-883-7209.
