Happy New Year, Polson. I don’t know about you, but I love ringing in a new year. It offers a clean slate, an opportunity to do and be better, a chance to set fresh goals and start the process of achieving those.

Our team of City Commissioners, City Staff, and City Boardmembers have been looking ahead to 2017 for a few months now and have started planning the goals that we want to achieve in the coming year. I would start by saying the list is long. We have a lot of topics, opportunities and issues we want to bring to the table in the next 12 months. Some of these include opportunities to add to our current trails system, looking at how we can contribute towards economic development, finishing our new city logo, focusing on the City’s beautification efforts, a full review and planning of our water and wastewater system, addressing clean city boundaries, reviewing our current public safety departments and future needs for them, and continuing to improve our communication with our citizens — just to name a few. Once again, it should prove to be quite a busy year.

As an update on your Commission, there was only one change in the past year. Commissioner Todd Erickson had to step aside due to relocating his residence within the community, and Lou Marchello stepped in to take over as the Ward 1 Representative. This took place in October, and while we will miss Commissioner Erickson’s involvement, we look forward to Commissioner Marchello’s contributions and representation.

I feel that we have accomplished a lot in the last three years – completing projects, updating policies, and improving processes. I would, however, invite you to provide me with any feedback or direction you’d like to share for the upcoming year. I’m interested in understanding your opinions of what we have done, and your ideas on what we may still do. If you have anything you would like to discuss, you may either contact me via email at mayor@cityofpolson.com or call me directly at 406-212-0479. I look forward to hearing from you.

As I am looking ahead to my final year as Mayor, I want to take this opportunity to once again thank you for allowing me this opportunity to serve our community. It has been challenging, enjoyable, and above all, a true honor to do so.

Wishing you all the best in 2017 and looking forward to many wonderful things happening in our community this year.
