POLSON — A Feb. 2 filing deadline for some local offices has come and gone, resulting in contested races for some fire, irrigation and library district boards.

The election will be held May 2 by mail-in ballot.

The Polson Rural Fire District has three openings, and incumbent Ron Roberts has filed but Jack Konit did not. Glen R. “Dick” Wunderlich and Patrick Gembala also filed.

The Flathead, Jocko and Mission irrigation districts have competitive seats.

In Flathead Division No. 3, incumbent Paul Guenzler of Ronan filed along with challenger David Passieri of St. Ignatius.

In Mission Division No. 2, incumbent Gene Posivio of St. Ignatius filed along with challenger Roy L. Anderson of St. Ignatius.

In Jocko Division No. 2, incumbent Jennifer Kaplan of Arlee filed along with challenger Blaine S. Edwards of Arlee.

In the North Lake County Library Board, incumbents Clint Hoxie and Marget “Maggie” Newman filed but Carole Olson did not. Challengers include Allen R. Bone, Danielle Tyler and Brooke Wegner.

A number of other open offices were uncontested, and the candidates who filed will be appointed to those various positions.

The filing deadline for several local school board positions is March 23.
