Warriors, Scarlets win district championship

PABLO – Cross one more to-do item off the list for the Warriors and Scarlets basketball teams.

On Saturday, at the Joe Mc- Donald Gym on the Salish Kootenai College campus, the top-ranked Warriors nabbed a 66-45 victory over the Plains Horsemen for the District 14-C championship.

The Warriors took control of the game with a 23-7 first quarter, and then sealed the championship with a 21-6 fourth.

For the Warriors, Tyler Tanner finished with a game-high of 24 points, Greg Whitesell added 15, and Phillip Malatare had 10 points.

On Thursday, the Warriors outpaced Two Eagle River 75-33 and outscored Hot Springs 84-58 on Friday.

The Warriors head to Butte this weekend for the divisional tournament.

Charlo Viking Tyson Petticrew scored game-highs of 19 points in the 54-43 win over St. Regis, 25 points in the 58-47 loss to Plains, and 30 points in the 62- 47 win over Noxon.

On Saturday, the Vikings fell to Hot Springs 65-49 in a battle for third place. Landers Smith had a Vikings team-high of 16 points.

Two Eagle River ended the season on Friday with a 52-38 loss to Noxon and a loss to Arlee on Thursday.

On the girl’s side of the bracket, Arlee’s Alyssia Vanderburg scored a game-high of 13 points to lead the Scarlets to a 38-28 championship victory over St. Regis on Saturday.

The Scarlets had a bye on Thursday and outran Charlo 50- 24 on Friday to reach the finals. In the game against Charlo, Vanderburg scored a game-high of 17 points and Cheyenne Nagy led Charlo with 13 points. The Scarlets head to the Western C Divisional in Butte on Thursday.

On Saturday, the Lady Vikings slipped past Plains 33-32 for third place. Nagy scored a gamehigh of 20 points for the Lady Vikings.

Charlo didn’t play St. Regis in the bracket, which allows them to challenge St. Regis for second place. The game will be held after the deadline.

On Friday, the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles’ season came to a close with losses to St. Regis and Hot Springs.
