FRENCHTOWN - Special Olympians from all over the Mission Valley joined more than 300 athletes from 26 Montana teams in celebration and competition during the 40th Annual Five Valleys Area Spring Games.

Valley Olympians participated in the three-day event which started at the Frenchtown High School with the opening ceremonies and track and field events on April 19. On Thursday, Playfair Park hosted the Bocce Competition and on the final day the YMCA of Missoula hosted the swimming competition.

The spring games are prelude to the upcoming Montana State Summer Games which will start on May 17, with the arrival of the Flame of Hope which is carried into the Washington-Grizzly Stadium by law enforcement officers from around the state.

Officer Rick Schoening of the Polson police department is scheduled to carry the torch from Rollins to Polson on May 11 and Polson to Arlee on May 12.
