Proud to call Lake County home
POLSON — The Lake County leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run went off without a hitch this past week. For those of you unaware of the purpose of the run, it is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympic athletes and the main event held annually. This year it is being held in Missoula.
Law enforcement officers, their families and friends, along with other community leaders took part in the route that passed through Lake County on May 11 and 12.
It is called the Torch RUN, but cyclists, power walkers, as well as runners took to U.S. highway 93 to show their support. The weather was beautiful for the 11, but Friday the 12 separated the truly dedicated participants. Pouring rain failed to stop the Ronan to Arlee athletes from completing their assigned legs.
I had the privilege of coordinating the run once again. Every law enforcement agency in our valley participated in this year’s event. We had fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles escorting our athletes making sure they were safe along their leg. The support was once again unsurpassed by these agencies. I want to say a big “Thank you.”
We should all be proud of the place we call home. The citizenry of Lake County never ceases to amaze me with their support for events such as this. I am proud to call Lake County my home.
