Montana Senior Olympics comes to Mission Valley

The 32nd annual Montana Senior Olympics will be held June 15-17 in the Mission Valley and now is the time for all athletes age 50 and older to sign up for their favorite individual and team sports.

The Montana Senior Olympics features 14 different sporting events, including: archery, golf, pickleball, badminton, horseshoes, basketball, bowling, cycling, tennis, table tennis, swimming, race walk, road race and track and field. The games will be held at various venues in Polson, Pablo and Ronan.

More than 300 athletes and 500 spectators are expected to participate in events.

The Polson VFW and Polson Elks Club will be hosting dinners for the athletes and sponsors of the games June 15-16.

Mick Holien will be the keynote speaker Friday night for the Elks Club Banquet.

Deadline for registration is May 22.

The Mission Valley will host the games again in the summer of 2018. The 2018 games will be qualifying events for the National Senior Olympics.

Arlee organization awards scholarships News from Friends of Arlee Schools ARLEE – The Friends of Arlee Schools, a nonprofit community-run organization designed to help the schools, has awarded three scholarships this year, each worth $1,000. Funds for the scholarships were raised with the group’s annual Buttercup Run that brings in donations from individuals and businesses. The first scholarship recipient this year is Ivory Brien. He wants to study wildlife biology at the University of Montana. Brindle Goyins is a scholarship recipient, and she wants to study nursing at either Carroll College or Montana Tech. Taylor Lammerding is the third student to receive a scholarship, and she wants to study music education at the U of M.
