High-speed chase ends in crash near Lakeside

POLSON – Two women were arrested after a high-speed chase late Wednesday, July 19.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop at 11:20 p.m. near St. Ignatius after a four-door Hyundai sedan was seen traveling erratically northbound on U.S. 93. The vehicle had defective equipment and reached speeds up to 95 mph during the chase, a press release states.
Officers attempted to deploy spike strips in Ronan and Pablo, but the attempts were either unsuccessful or the vehicle evaded them. A spike strip was eventually successful and the vehicle was driven on flat tires for a while until it impacted a guardrail near milepost 101 in the Lakeside area.
Felicia Blackman, who LCSO identified as the driver, and Johnna Yellowkidney had warrants for their arrest. Blackman’s warrant was related to a drug charge in Glacier County, while Yellowkidney’s was for failure to pay fines in Cascade County, LCSO Undersheriff Ben Woods said.
Both women were transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Blackman was later released and is being held in the Flathead County Jail. Charges in Lake County are pending.
Tribal, Ronan and Polson police assisted in the pursuit, along with the Montana Highway Patrol and Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
