Dayton Daze supports volunteer fire department

DAYTON – “Fired up for the ‘50s” was the theme of this year’s Dayton Daze, which went “extremely well,” according to Zoe Lilja.
Lilja, who serves as secretary/treasurer of the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department/QRU and chair of the 26th annual event, said the turnout was good this year.
“People were real enthusiastic,” she said.
The event serves as the fire department’s biggest fundraiser. Lilja said funds raised will go toward a vital signs monitor, thermal imager and enhanced communications equipment.
A number of parade prizes were awarded, including Judge’s favorite: The Great Scots bagpipers; best vehicle: 1951 Mercury, Ronnie
Timlick; horse prize: Isabelle and Eve Learn; best organization: Chief Cliff Grand Marshal, 1956 Power Wagon; children’s prize: Kaydee and Vanessa Wheeler.
Best costume awards went to: Doug Schultz, ‘50s dad; Rhonda Wheeler, poodle skirt; and “The Cousins,” Kailyn Kreis, Gracie Kreis and Sydne Putzler, matching poodle skirts.
Bigfork resident Bill Hutchison won the “best car” award with his 1958 Dodge Custom Royal, while Big Arm residents David and Cynthia Waterman won the rifle raffle and took home a .44-70 Henry rifle.
