POLSON — A 22-year-old Dixon man was given a three-year deferred sentence for an amended charge of criminal endangerment last week as part of a plea agreement.

Jessie Lee Walking Eagle was originally charged with two counts of child sexual abuse and misdemeanor tampering with a witness.

According to a court document, Walking Eagle sent a video of himself having intercourse with a 17-year-old girl to a male friend of the girl and threatened to send it to other parties. Walking Eagle then allegedly tried to get the girl to withhold information from law enforcement and not participate in future legal proceedings after he found out that she had made a statement to law enforcement.

Judge James A. Manley made Walking Eagle read silently a letter from the victim’s mother while he was in court on Sept. 13. Afterward, he apologized for what happened.

Manley expressed concern about Walking Eagle’s “relatively free lifestyle. He doesn’t work. He doesn’t go to school. He’s about to be a father,” Manley said.

Defense attorney Britt Cotter noted that one of the conditions of the plea agreement requires Walking Eagle to find work. Cotter said he also was concerned about his client.

“I hope he gets it together because if he doesn’t, he’s going to be revoked, and he’s looking down the barrel at 10 years,” Cotter said.

Walking Eagle was required to complete sex offender treatment and was given credit for 54 days in jail.
