Basketball

MISSOULA – On Friday, the Polson Pirates used a 31-18 second half to defeat Corvallis 52-45 during the Western A Tip-Off held at the Adams Center on the University of Montana campus.

Shade Main paced the Pirates with 14 points. Connor Lanier scored 12 points and Asa Askan had 11 points for Polson.

Main scored a game high 21 points and Asa Askan added another 14 in Saturday’s 51-40 loss to Butte Central. 

For the Lady Pirates, Kaelyn Smith scored a team high 13 points in a 50-40 loss to Corvallis on Friday. On Saturday, Jaycee Frydenlund led all shooters with 13 points in a 44-22 losing effort against Butte Central.

CHARLO – The Charlo Vikings sprinted to a 31-point halftime lead and jogged to a 63-16 win in their home debut against St. Regis on Friday evening.

On Saturday evening, the Vikings followed up their Friday victory with a 58-34 road win against Victor.

Brady Fryberger netted 17 points, while Tyson Petticrew finished with 16 points for the Vikings.

After losing 38-27 to St. Regis at home on Friday, the Lady Vikings regrouped with a 61-10 road win over Victor on Saturday. Tyrah Hammond scored a game high 12 points and Sakoya Gaustad scored 10 points for the Lady Vikings.

MISSOULA – In the Western A Tip-Off, the Ronan Chiefs defeated Stevensville 53-44 and on Saturday fell 63-49 to Corvallis. Anthony Camel had back-to-back game highs for the Chiefs, scoring 26 points against Stevensville and netting 21 points against Corvallis. 

Micalann McCrea and Louetta Conko Camel both added game-high 17 points helping the Ronan Maidens defeat Stevensville 56-45 on Friday. 

Corvallis rode a strong 13-4 third quarter on Saturday to narrowly defeat the Maidens 51-49. Once again, McCrea led all scorers. She scored 21 points.

Wrestling

POLSON – On Dec. 5, Polson wrestling defeated visiting Frenchtown 31-27. Pirates Cameron Brown (145), Parker Adler (152), and Hunter Fritsch (182) won their matches by pin, while Mateo Quinones (126), Jarod Farrier (132), Garrett Croft (170) and Noah Humphrey (205) won by decision.

ANACONDA – The Mission/Charlo Bulldogs were able to slip past Anaconda in a battle on the mats 42-36 on Thursday evening.

Walker Murphy (113), Bailey Weible (126), Cole Gilleard (132), Darwin Adams (138), Isiah Alik (152), Miles Anderson (170) and Gus Bosley (182) all had victories for the Bulldogs.

SUPERIOR — At the Bob Kinney Classic, the Mission/Charlo Bulldogs placed sixth with 98 points and the Arlee Warriors finished eleventh with 36 points in the 12-team event on Saturday.

For the Warriors, Jace Samsel won the 103-weight class title by decision over Whitefish’s Jackson Carson and George Shick (182) finished second.

The Bulldogs’ Gus Bosley (170) placed second, Bailey Weible (126) grabbed a third-place finish with a pin and both Darwin Adams (138) and Lucas Wohltmann (205) nabbed fourth place finishes.
