Last week Phillip Malatare, Arlee Warrior basketball All-Star, announced the signing of his national letter of intent to continue his basketball career at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Softball

MAC Bulldogs 15

The MAC Bulldogs celebrated senior night in grand fashion with a 15-0 drubbing of Drummond on Tuesday, May 8.

MAC pitcher Tomi Brazill struck out seven in her first no-hitter of her career. Ashley Tanner clobbered a two-run home run to lead the Bulldogs.

Polson Lady Pirates 23, Whitefish Bulldogs 1

Kaylanna DesJarlais had five RBIs, including a home run, and the Lady Pirates beat hosting Whitefish 16-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday.

In the second game, Quinn Motichka and Olivia Perez drove in five runs apiece as the Lady Pirates walloped the Bulldogs 23-1.

Laverne Combo Softball Tournament: On Friday, the Ronan and Polson girls’ softball teams competed in the Laverne Combo Softball Tournament held in Butte.

Madison Clairmont went 2 for 3 with five RBIs, a double and a home run as the Maidens opened the tournament with a big 15-1 win over Havre.  

In the second game of the day, Huntley Project prevailed 15-0 over the Maidens. The young Huntley pitcher tossed a no-hitter, striking out eight.

Lady Pirate Quinn Motichka homered for the first time this season and had a double in a 10-0 victory over Laurel in Polson’s first game of the tournament.

Teammates Josie Caye and Laurel Bitterman both went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs.

Motichka followed with another two-run home run in the second game of the day to help Polson past Glendive 8-4.

The MAC Bulldogs joined Polson and Ronan at the tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs split their two games, losing a close 5-4 game against Dillion then bouncing back in the second game against Columbus 13-3.

Frankie Smith, Olivia Garland and Azia Umphrey each slugged home runs in the Bulldog win. Umphrey’s homer was a grand slam giving her four home runs on the season.

Ronan dropped both of their games on Saturday, falling to Miles City 14-6 and Hardin 5-4.

Gabby Wirz had a solo home run for the Maidens against Miles City, while Emilie Corley and Katlyn Santos had home runs in the Hardin game.

The Lady Pirates finished the tournament with a 4-0 record after defeating Miles City 15-5 and Colstrip 25-3 on Saturday.

In the Miles City game, Kaelyn Smith and Kaylanna Desjarlais each slugged home runs and drove in three runs apiece. Caye drilled a pair of two-run home runs along with five RBIs to lead the Lady Pirates.

Against Colstrip, the Lady Pirates scored 25 runs on 21 hits. Motichka and Bitterman both had four RBIs apiece.

Baseball

The Mission Valley Rockies played host to the Cranbrook Bandits on Saturday and Sunday. 

On Saturday, the Rockies swept Cranbrook in a doubleheader 18-9 and 13-3. In Sunday’s match up, the Rockies lost a close 9-7 battle to the Bandits.

 

Tennis

Mission Bulldog Warren Castor won the boys singles tennis southwest B-C divisional championship in Darby on Saturday. Castor won his semifinals match against Waku Kamiya of Darby 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-2. In the championship match, Castor once again faced Kamiya winning 7-6, 6-2.

Track and Field

Bigfork Invitational: Karolyna Buck finished first in high jump (4-10), Sydney Brander won the long jump (15-6.5) and Michael Durglo took first in the shot put (47-10) for the Mission Bulldogs during the Bigfork Invitational track meet on Saturday.

Finishing second were Afton Brander in the high jump (4-10) and Hunter Eichert in the javelin (102-3).

In the team standings the girls finished third with 65 points and the boys finished seventh with 25 points.

Polson ABC Meet: 

Polson High School hosted the ten team Polson ABC meet on Saturday.

Winning multiple titles for Polson were Bea Frissell in both the 1600 meter (5:20.86) and the 3200 meter, and Mikaela Ducharme in the long jump (16-03) and triple jump (32-09).

Also winning titles were Trenton Adler in the 200-meter (23.09) and Colton Cote in the 110-meter hurdles (15.33).

Taking second were Molly Sitter in the 3200-meter (12:25.27), Quin Stewart in the 1600-meter (4:35.55) and Colton Cote in the 300-meter hurdles (40.64).

The boys squad finished fourth with 127 points, while the girls team finish sixth with 98 points.

Ronan received a first from Kinsely Barney in the 100-meter (13.36) and a second in the 200-meter (27.10)

The Chiefs finished with 28 points in eighth place, while the Maidens finished ninth with 26 points.
