The Montana High School Association (MHSA) announced Wednesday in a press release that the MHSA Executive Board has hired Polson High School principal Scott Wilson as its next assistant director.

Wilson has served in the Polson School District the last 17 years as a teacher, coach, activities director and principal. He begins his new duties on July 2 and will be replacing Joanne Austin, who is retiring after 32 years with the MHSA.

Soccer

In Kalispell over the weekend, the Montana Youth Soccer Association held its State Cup soccer tournament. The Polson FC U16 girls’ team defeated Flathead United in an overtime shoot for the State Championship.

“Winning the state championship this year put an exclamation point on how hard the Polson girls have worked and advanced over the past four years,” said head coach Jess Kittle. “In 2015, this team won one game in the whole season, then in 2016 they won the Bronze division at State Cup, followed by a second-place finish in the Silver division in 2017. This year, they earned their place in the gold division and capped it off with a state championship.”

Softball

Ronan Maiden softball coach Kellie Jones Manyhides announced to her team and their parents last week that Ronan High School will not be renewing her contract for next season. Manyhides coached the Maidens for three seasons.

Baseball

This past weekend the Mission Valley Rockies played the Missoula Pioneers. The Pioneers hosted the Pioneer Daze Tournament in Bonner. The Rockies went 1-2 in the tournament. After losing 12-3 to the Pioneers on Friday, the Rockies bounced back against Columbia Falls Cougars 13-8 on Saturday. In Sunday’s match ups, the game against Helena was cancelled due to rain, and they lost to the Bitterroot Red Sox 7-1 in the late game.

On Friday, the Mission Valley Mariners split a double header with the Bitterroot Bucs falling 16-1 in the first game and winning a close one 4-3 in the second game.

Basketball

During the June 6 Two Eagle River School board meeting, members announced Camas McClure as the new boys’ basketball head coach and DJ Piapot as assistant coach. “I am truly honored to be selected as the head coach,” said McClure. “I have worked my tail off to earn this position. It’s really a dream come true.”
