Editor,
The future economic stability of Lake County depends on the election of those whose loyalty is not divided between two governments.
The only governmental entity that is responsible for Lake County is the County Commission, a political subdivision of the State of Montana. The government of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes was designed by the Treaty of Hellgate and the 1934 Indian Reorganization Act to serve only Tribal members. Thus “sovereignty” of a Tribe means the right to be self-determined and to be self-governed.
Thus, the only logical choice for County Commissioner is Gale Decker, whose years of service to Lake County in numerous capacities demonstrates his thorough understanding of the issues facing and the role of county government as its governing authority. Mr. Decker takes an oath of office to serve all the people of Lake County and is responsible only to the Montana and United States constitutions.
