ST. IGNATIUS – The Mission Bulldogs' cross-country team hosted a race for the first time in recent history on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

“It was awesome, our first meet was a success,” Bulldog cross-country head coach Chris Eichert said.

Planning for the meet took some time. “Last spring, I asked if we could hold one if I took care of everything, and the administration said ‘yes,’” she said.

The athletes inspired Eichert to organize the event.

“I have wanted to hold one for the athletes,” Eichert said. “They spend as much time as other sports’ athletes do training and competing, yet only family members go to their events. I wanted to hold one during school so that the students could support the cross-country athletes and really see what cross-country is all about.”  Students at the school did go out and watch the race.

“My athletes were so excited that their friends and teachers were able to watch them,” she said. “We had quite a few teams competing.  Everything seemed to run smoothly and on time. I had volunteers to help with monitoring the course and handing out packets. I couldn’t have done it without them. They were great help.”

Polson Lady Pirate Beatrix Frissell crossed the finish line first in the Bulldog invitational with a time of 19:53.55. During the Mission Shadow Duels XC Meet on Saturday at Silver Fox Golf Course in Pablo, she finished first again with a time of 18:40.30.

At the Mission meet, Bulldog Karolyna Buck finished seventh in the girls' race, while Aidyn Rosenbaum finished in the boys' top 25. The top three finishers included Ronan’s James Normandeau in the boys' race with a time of 17:41.66, followed by Charlo’s Willis Degrandpre and Polson’s Mason Sloan.

Kaona Trahan placed tenth to lead the Ronan Maidens, while Charlo’s Aryal Love placed eleventh for the Lady Vikings. Jason Miller and ninth place Cheyenne Pablo were top boy and girl placers for Arlee.

Top finishers for Two Eagle River were Travis Pierre and Viviana After Buffalo Adams.

On Saturday, Normandeau led the pack of Mission Valley boy runners with a third-place finish, Sloan finished seventh for Polson, DeGrandpre finished in the top 20 for Charlo, while Mission’s Rosenbaum and Two Eagle River’s Michael Brown were their schools' top finishers.

Mission’s Buck, Ronan’s Analeta Yellowbird, Charlo’s Love and Two Eagle River’s After Buffalo Adams were their schools' top girl finishers during Saturday’s race.
