Cross-Country

Mission Valley area prep cross-country teams all competed at the University of Montana Golf Course Saturday afternoon, during the State All-Class Cross-Country meet.

Polson senior Bea Frissell conquered the five-kilometer course with a record-breaking time of 19:02.57 capturing the girls’ Class A title and All-State status. Lady Pirate teammate Molly Sitter earned All-State honors when she came in thirteenth with a mark of 20:22.73. As a team, the Lady Pirates finished fifth.

Polson Pirate Mason Sloan earned All-State recognition with his top ten finish of 17:09.48.

Ronan Chief James Normandeau earned an All-State nod as well with a 16:53.76 sixth-place finish, while sophomore Kaona Trahan was the first Ronan Maiden across the line at 22:37.88.

Aidyn Rosenbaum, who finished with a time of 21:14.31, was the top finisher for the Mission Bulldogs, while Lady Bulldog Karolyna Buck was right on his heels with a time of 22:30.25.

The top Two Eagle River runners were Anthony Charlo with a 20:03.52 time and Lady Eagle TaRae Good Luck with a 27:25.98 time. Good Luck finished 10.55 seconds ahead of teammate Mara Parizeau (27:36.53), and the two runners were 70th and 71st, in that order.

For Arlee, Billy Fisher tripped the timer at 19:51.65, and Cheyenne Pablo led her squad with a time of 25:30.50.

Connor Koenig’s time of 20:09.07 was the fastest time posted for the Charlo Vikings, while Lady Viking Guinevere Contreras’s time of 23:36.07 led the girls.

Football

Arlee Warriors 56,
Alberton-Superior 52
The Arlee Warriors are playoff bound with a nail-biter win on Friday night. On the road, the Warriors defeated Alberton- Superior 56-52. Arlee will host Centerville on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs.

Darby Tigers 56,
Mission Bulldogs 28

On Friday, the Bulldogs saw their playoff hopes come to an end with a 56- 28 home loss against Darby. Quarterback Kolten Gardipee threw for 188 yards with four touchdowns and carried the ball five times for 62 yards. Running back Troy Matt rushed 15 times for 71 yards. Both Bulldog receivers Jedi Christy and Wacey McClure caught two touchdowns; Christy led all receivers with 144 yards.

C. Falls Wild Cats 62,
Polson Pirates 8

Pirates quarterback Boston Goode hit Dugan Davis with a 38-yard pass touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take the goose egg off the scoreboard in the 62-8 home loss to Columbia Falls. Boston Goode completed a pass to Ryker Wenderoth for the extra two points in the last game of the season for the Pirates.

Browning Indians 58,
Ronan Chiefs 34

On Friday, the Chiefs fell 58-34 to the visiting Browning Indians. Chief quarterback Eric Dolence was 18 of 30 for 223 yards passing with one touchdown. Dolence also rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Mays rushed for two touchdowns on 10 carries for 64 yards, while Bubba Bush and Daniel Kelsch each had a touchdown apiece.

Charlo Lady Vikings 3,
Arlee Scarlets 0

Kaitlin Cox recorded 16 of the 35 Charlo kills as the first-place Lady Vikings swept the visiting Class 14C rivals Arlee Scarlets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, to stay undefeated 16-0 on the season Thursday.

“It’s been a season full of hard work and discipline. From the first week of practice to this past week, there hasn’t been one girl who hasn’t improved in one way or another,” said Lady Viking head coach Rhondell Volinkaty. “We had some rough patches throughout the season, but these girls bounced back and worked twice as hard to overcome the adversity they faced. I am very proud of each one of them for a great regular season.”

Teaira Truman led Charlo in assists with 31, while Bella Hawk led in digs (20) and aces (5).

Heading into the postseason, Volinkaty said, “I expect to see a lot of the same type of play from this team. They will be attacking the net with our hard-hitting and defending it with big blocks and speed in the backcourt, not letting anything touch the floor. As intensity increases, these girls play better. It will be exciting to see what they can do.”

For the Scarlets, Mellie Desjarlais led the team with 13 kills and Emily Fiddler had a game-high 34 digs.

C. Falls Wildkats 3,
Polson Lady Pirates 1

“The girls played with awesome energy tonight. Scrambling for loose balls, swinging hard and serving aggressively,” Lady Pirate head coach Lizzy Cox said of her team in their final home game of the regular season.

The Lady Pirates won the first set 25-20, however, the Wildkats took the next three sets 25-15, 25-23, 25-22 and the 3-1 Tuesday evening road win.

“Crowd was great and gave the team extra energy to keep us in the game,” said Cox.

Shea McGuinness led the Lady Pirates with 23 assists, Kyla Blixt served up four aces, while Mikaela DuCharme had 17 digs and eight kills on the evening.

Browning Lady Indians 3,
Ronan Maidens 1

On Thursday, the Maidens fell to Browning in a four-set battle 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17 to finish the season 2-8 in the conference. “I feel that we have a good team this season,” Maiden head coach Charla Lake said. “We are a little young but Tiana Ulutoa has been a great leader this season. She leads by example hustling down every ball and keeping a positive attitude at all times. She is the only senior on varsity this season and has been a vital asset to our team. It is hard to imagine next year without her.”

Ulutoa led the team with 26 assists, 19 digs and six aces against Browning.

“Our team has all the tools they need to be successful during districts,” said Lake. “It will all come down to poise and how we handle the pressure of tournament season.”
