MISSOULA – Running on a sunny fall afternoon with temperatures in the mid-60s, sunglasses wearing Beatrix Frissell cruised to her second consecutive State A girls’ cross country championship on Saturday at the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula.
“The weather was perfect,” Frissell said. “It was amazing, no wind or anything.”
The Polson senior crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 02.57 seconds, breaking the state 5K record of 19:15.82 she set last season. Frissell finished 21.02 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Hamilton’s Brynnli Poulsen.
“It feels amazing,” Frissell said of winning her second state title. “It means a whole lot to me. I have been training harder this season than I was last season. I was hoping for a big finish.”
The title win brings a spectacular senior cross-country season to a close in which Frissell captured another Western A divisional individual title and placed within the top ten of all races entered with more than five being first place finishes.
