PABLO – The Charlo Lady Vikings basketball team repeated the feat of a year ago by winning at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center on Saturday to lock up the 14C District championship with a 44-43 win over the Arlee Scarlets.

On Thursday, the second-seeded Lady Vikings rolled to a convincing 69-10 blowout win over the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles. The win advanced the Lady Vikings into the next round of the tournament against the Plains Trotters.

Kaitlin Cox scored a game-high 12 points to help the Lady Vikings clinch a spot in the championship by defeating the Trotters in a very close 37-33 semifinal victory on Friday.

The Lady Vikings got off to a fast start in the early first quarter and outscored the Scarlets 15-6. Arlee narrowed the lead to just five points by out shooting Charlo 12-8 before the half. In the third quarter, both teams matched points, and the Lady Vikings held a 35-30 lead. During the start of the fourth quarter, the Scarlets went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 36-35 lead at the 5:56 mark of the game. The score went back-and-forth with both teams playing physical defense. With just eight seconds left, the score knotted up at 43-43.

The Lady Viking Destiney Manuel was fouled as she headed for a score. At the charity stripe, Manuel missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity but buried the second shot to give the Lady Vikings a one-point lead and the district championship win. Along with the game-winning shot, Manuel led the Lady Vikings with 15 points. Louetta Conko-Camel scored a game-high 18 points for the Scarlets.

Charlo will advance to the divisional portion of the state c playoffs in Butte. Arlee’s post season will be decided in a challenge game with the Plains Trotters.
