Lady Pirates split weekend season home opener

POLSON – In their 2019-season home opener, the Polson Lady Pirates softball team rallied for three scores but came up short as they fell 10-8 on Friday evening in a Class A nonconference battle with the Hamilton Lady Broncs.

Polson pitcher Lauren Vergeront pitched well despite taking a loss that allowed four runs, on four hits, one home run and three walks while striking out three. Katelyne Druyvestein pitched three innings for the Lady Pirates, allowing six runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out four.              

Lady Pirate Kobbey Smith had a solid game at the plate. She went two-for-three with a double and three RBIs. Also, for the Lady Pirates, Paige Noyes was one-for-three with two RBIs. Lisa Costilla went two-for-three with an RBI and Lexi Orien went two-for-four with a double.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Pirates bounced back from Friday evening’s home loss with a mercy-rule, 11-1 home win over the Libby Lady Loggers.

Vergeront recorded the win against the Lady Loggers allowing only one run on five hits while walking none and striking out four in five innings of work.

The Lady Pirates scored seven runs in the first inning as seven Polson batters banged out 12 hits in the conference win.

Costilla led Polson at the plate and drove in four runs on a double and a home run. 

Joining the Lady Pirate hit parade were Josie Caye with three hits, Kallie Finkhiemer and Smith each had two hits and Noyes, Orien and DesJarlais each had a hit.

The Lady Pirates are back on the diamond at 7 p.m. on Thursday as they host the Columbia Falls Wildkats and on Saturday when they travel to Browning.
