Charlo girls' track team wins memorial competition

POLSON – The Charlo Lady Vikings girls’ track and field team deployed claimed a dominating victory in the Dave Tripp Memorial at the Polson High School track on Friday.

With 11 top-five finishes, including four victories, the Lady Vikings racked up 105.5 points, well ahead of the 93 points totaled by second-place Seeley-Swan. Fourteen teams competed in the event. The Charlo girls also won the 4x100 relay and finished third in the 4x400 relay. 

Lady Viking senior Kaitlin Cox placed first in both the triple jump with a mark of 33-feet and four inches and the long jump with a mark of 16-feet five inches. Cox was second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Carlee Fryberger won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.90 seconds and the 100 meters with a time of 13.49 seconds for the Lady Vikings. Fryberger placed third in both the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump.

Lady Viking Tyrah Hammond finished in fourth place in the pole vault. Allie Delaney placed fourth in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the shot put.

The Arlee Scarlets, as a team, finished eleventh overall with 20 points. Arlee’s one individual win came via Peyton Lammerding, who placed first in the shot put with a throw of 35-feet and nine inches. Lammerding also placed second in the discus.

Finishing in sixth place overall with 40 team points were the Mission Lady Bulldogs. Karolyna Buck finished second in the 800-meters and third in the 1600-meters. Lady Bulldog Addison Arlint placed fourth in the shot put. Afton Brander finished third in the high jump, and in the triple jump Sydney Brander finished second. 

On the boys’ side of the track, the Charlo Vikings raced to a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay and fourth in the 4x400 relay, while also posting a 91-point and a third-place overall team finish.

Viking Wills Degrandpre grabbed individual titles in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, while teammate Nick Daugherty nabbed fourth place in the 1,600-meter and a fifth place in the 800-meters. 

Charlo’s Garett Vaughan recorded multiple top-five finishes during the event. Placing second in both the pole vault and 110-meter hurdles, while finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles. Viking pole-vaulter Ethan Diaz won top honors with a vault of 10-feet, six inches. Landers Smith also had a fourth-place long jump and second place 300-meter hurdles for the Vikings.

The Mission Bulldogs finished fifth in the 4x100 relay and eighth in the overall team standings. Bulldog Isaiah Nasateweya finished second in the 1,600-meters, Matt Anderson placed fifth in the discus and Charlie Adams finished fourth in the triple jump.

For the Arlee Warriors, Isaac Fisher had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and in the high jump.

Warrior Levi Fullerton placed second in the javelin, and Jason Miller finished fifth in the triple jump.

For the Two Eagle River School Eagles, Anthony Charlo was the top finisher in 26th place in the long jump followed by Yancy McCrea in the shot put with a 31st place finish.
