LAKE COUNTY – The upcoming school and special purpose district election is an all mail-in ballot election. Lake County Election Administrator Katie Harding said the ballots for the May 7 election will be mailed out on April 17.

Eight issues are scheduled to be decided in districts from Arlee to Polson with a focus on libraries, schools and a fire department.

In Arlee, two school board positions are on the ballot. Voters will be asked to choose two people for three-year terms. The candidates include Brian BigSam, Crista Couture and incumbent Kris Gardener. The second board position is for a two-year term, and Lindsey O’Neill is the candidate.

In Charlo, two school board positions are open. Voters are asked to choose two candidates for three-year terms. The candidates are Terrance R Rosenbaum, Adrian Roylance, Stephanie S. Smith and David Jake Wadsworth.

The second position in Charlo is for a two-year term. Voters should choose one candidate. The candidates are Dion Carey and Tracy Olsen.

In St. Ignatius, one school board position is open for a three-year term. The candidates are Cheyenne McClure and Stan Delaney.

The North Lake County Library has a four-year term open on the board. Voters need to pick two candidates. The candidates include Carlene Engstrom, Clint O Hoxie, Holly Wurl, Leslie-Anne Martin and Virginia DuBrucq.

For the Ronan Rural Fire District board, voters will be asked to choose one candidate for a three-year term. The candidates are Byron Samuel Cates and Kevin Templer.

The Polson Rural Fire District Levy is on the ballot with a “for” or “against” vote. Voters are asked to decide if a new levy should be imposed to take the place of an expiring levy. The total amount of the levy is approximately $68,500 per year for seven years with a maximum of five mills.

The funds would be used for maintenance of fire protection facilities, including real property, brush trucks, command car, engine for main structure fires, water tenders and pumper trucks. It would also be used for emergency response apparatus, including equipment for cold water and ice rescue.

The fiscal impact for homeowners is estimated to be $6.75 per year on a home with a market value of $100,000; $13.50 per year on a home with a market value of $200,000.
