Tennis

Mission Bulldogs

Mission Lady Bulldog Maria Bugeda advanced into state tennis tournament action by winning the girls singles title during the B-C Divisional in Darby last weekend. The State Class B-C Tournament will be held at the Bozeman MSU Tennis Center starting on Thursday and running through Saturday.

Joining Bugeda will be Jason Moore who placed second in the boys singles bracket, Rudy King who finished third, Deago Hostetler who grabbed fourth and Trevyn Carter who placed fifth.

Winning the boys doubles championship and also making their way to state for the Bulldogs is Lalo Bravo and Kayden Carter. 

Polson Pirates

Both the Polson boys and girls tennis teams defeated Columbia Falls 5-2 in Northwestern A action in Kalispell on Tuesday, May 7. Polson picked up wins from their number one and number two girls teams in doubles competition. The number one doubles team of Berkeley Ellis and Qia Harlan defeated Taylor Jarrett and Anna Pickard of Columbia Falls, 6-1, 6-1; while the number two duo composed of Ara Mercer and Megan Rost put away Cassidy Norrick and Grace Gedlaman, 6-0, 6-0, of Columbia Falls.

Heading into singles competition, number one singles player Joe McDonald picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over his opponent. Singles players Colby Delvin and Sarah Kinzle each came away with a win.

On Friday, Polson was on the road playing against Northwestern A rival Whitefish. The boys came up short in a 5-2 loss, while the girls fell 6-1.

A doubles team of Berkley Ellis and Qia Harlan won in three sets 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4 for the girls. For the boys, Matt Hobbs won his singles match 6-2, 6-1 and doubles team Kendall Forman-Webster and Bridger Wenzel won their match 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Ronan Chiefs

On the road in Northwestern A tennis action, the Ronan boys fell 7-0 and the girls lost 3-0 to hosting Corvallis on Tuesday, May 7.

In Northwestern A boys and girls tennis action on Saturday, visiting Libby defeated the Maidens 5-1 and the Chiefs 6-1.

Maiden doubles team of Courtney Bourdon and Aaliyah Decker won their match 6-4, 6-4. The Chief’s Dillon Pretty On Top won his singles match in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

 

Softball

Mission-Arlee-Charlo

The MAC wrapped up their softball regular season at home with a 6-3 loss to conference leader Loyola. 

The Lady Bulldogs were held to just three hits on the evening. Azia-Rain Umphrey led MAC at the plate with a hit and an RBI.

On Saturday, MAC competed in the annual Laverne Combo tournament in Butte. MAC split their two games on Saturday falling 8-7 to Colstrip then defeating Stillwater 12-4.

Polson Lady Pirates

The Polson Lady Pirates went 4-0 during the two-day Laverne Combo Invitational tournament in Butte.

In Friday’s matchups, the Lady Pirates defeated Livingston 9-0 and Havre 11-4.

The Lady Pirates scored 11 runs on 14 hits in the Havre game. Kobbey Smith paced the Polson batters with a home run and three RBI’s.

On Saturday, the Lady Pirate batters blistered Glasgow 12-0 and Miles City 13-0. Kaylanna DesJarlais blasted a double and two home runs, while Lexy Orien also had a home run in the Miles City game.

Ronan Maidens

During the Laverne Combo Invitational tournament in Butte on Friday and Saturday, the Ronan Maidens battled to a 1-3 record. In Friday’s matchups, the Maidens fell 8-5 to Manhattan and 11-7 to Livingston. 

For the Maidens in the Manhattan game, Regan Clairmont forced in three runs on a double and a home run.

Ronan split Saturday’s games falling 9-3 to Glasgow and defeating Havre 12-2. Against Havre, the Maidens scored 12 runs on 12 hits. Clairmont had three RBI’s and a home run.
