MISSOULA – On a perfect spring weekend for high school track and field, it was the Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings who came out looking the best by the end of the meet.

Charlo won both the boys and the girls competitions at the 2019 14C District Track and Field Championships held Friday and Saturday at Missoula’s MCPS Stadium.

The Vikings took home the championship trophy for the 17th consecutive season. In a close point spread, Charlo tallied 10 points more than the Noxon team who scored 146 team points.

For the Vikings, Wills DeGrandpre won the 800, 1600 and the 3200-meter races. Landers Smith won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault.

The Viking team of Garett Vaughan, Isaiah Allik, Braydon Zempel and Smith won the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.27 seconds.

On the girls side, the Lady Vikings dominated and claimed their second consecutive team title, winning eight events and posting a total of 208 team points.

Winning individual titles for the Lady Vikings were Carlee Fryberger in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles; Tyrah Hammond in the 400-meter and pole vault; Kaitlin Cox in both the long and triple jump and Allie Delaney in the 300-meter hurdles.

The relay team of Cox, Hammond, Delaney and Fryberger won the 4x100 with a time of 52.26 seconds, while the relay team of Kyla Tomlin, Kassidi Cox, Hammond and Delaney won the 4x400 posting a time of 4:29.66 seconds.

The Arlee boys and girls also competed in the event. The boys team placed third overall. Arlee Warrior Sage Nicolai placed second in the 3200, and Garrett Stringer finished second in both long and high jumps. For the Arlee Scarlets, Peyton Lammerding finished first in the shot put and second in the discus. Both schools have qualified athletes for the next event on the prep track and field schedule.

The Class C Divisional meets will be held May 16 and 17 at MCPS Stadium in Missoula.
