PABLO – The Lake County Montana Relay for Life has been raising funds in support of the American Cancer Society’s battle against cancer in the Mission Valley for many years, and they are starting a new era. On Saturday, they will hold their first one-mile fun run/walk, 5K and 10K fundraising event called the Race to End Cancer.

“We thought we would change things up this year,” said co-chairwoman Caitlyn Rose. “We are excited to put on our very first run/walk and race to raise funds in helping to find a cure and pay for programs to help cancer patients.”

The Race to End Cancer event will be held at the Michel building on the campus of the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Saturday’s event will start with a pre-race check in at 9 a.m. All three races start at 10 a.m. Runners can still pre-register online or register on the day of the race.

After the races, a pig roast is planned to feed the hungry race participants and guests. A gift basket raffle and cake auction will follow the meal. A traditional luminaria ceremony will be held at the end of the event. Participants are asked to light their luminaries to honor and reflect on those they have lost and support those who are fighting cancer.

Nearly $20,000 of this year’s fundraising goal of $50,000 has been raised in support of the American Cancer Society’s work to research programs and for cancer patient support systems.
