PABLO – After a long winter, the Mission Valley Super Oval (formerly Mission Valley Speedway) opened the 2019 race season under new management. The season opened about seven weekends ago.
Tony Undem and his all-star team have been feeding people’s need for speed with a paved oval racing venue measuring in at three-eighths of a mile. Spectators can enjoy the family-friendly racing venue every weekend.
“This track has a good program going on,” said race car driver Matt Gollehon. “I am really proud of it. It has been a lot of years since the track has been this good. Everybody is having fun out here.”
There was a possibility that the track wouldn’t re-open for the 2019 race season following internal problems. “I just hated to see it all go away,” said Undem.
Undem jumped behind the wheel of a race car for the first time a little more than ten years ago and has been driving in circles ever since. “It was one of those things I always wanted to do,” he said.
Being a driver and car owner helps him understand what racers need as improvements are done to the track. Undem and his crew have already worked to create a family-like racing environment in both the stands and pits.
“The drivers are great for helping each other,” he said. “They want all the competition they can get, so you will see every driver in someone else’s pit helping them out to get them going again.”
Undem has already noticed a steady increase in the number of spectators and cars since the beginning of the season.
