It took a while but summer finally got here, and at the library we are in the last month of our summer reading program. On Thursday, Aug. 15, at 10:30 a.m., we will have a special showing of the 30-minute documentary, Earthrise. This story is told solely by the Apollo 8 astronauts and recounts their experience of seeing the earth for the first time from space.

Be sure to turn in your reading logs by Friday, Aug. 16, and then join us for our annual “Ice Cream Social” on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. We will have ice cream from Cove Deli and Pizza and will hold our prize drawing.  All are welcome.

During the last week of the summer reading program (Aug. 19-24) the library will offer “Food for Fines.” Each item of food you donate will remove $1.50 in library fines from your account. Food donations cannot be used on lost or damaged items. Don’t have any fines but would still like to contribute? Please drop off food anytime during that week. All food will be donated to the Loaves and Fish Food Pantry.

On Friday, Aug. 23, we begin a new program series called “Flipster Fun.” Join Angela to make a brown sugar and lemon facial scrub with a recipe from the summer 2019 “Willow & Sage” magazine, accessible for free with your library card on the Flipster website. All supplies will be provided, so please let us know if you are coming by calling or responding on our Facebook event page.

With Flipster we are able to provide many of your favorite magazines to you online for free with your library card. It even includes back issues. Check it out by clicking on the link on our website.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m., Heather will teach “Computer Basics: What Google Can Do.”  She will go over the Google calendars, how Google helps with job searches and much more. This class is free and open to the public.

Our last “Friday Night at the Library” movie showing before school starts will be on Aug. 23, at 6 p.m.  This month we will show a new live action release from Disney that is sure to hit the “big top.” Check our website for the movie title and be sure to be in the library before the doors close at 6 p.m.

The library is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
