ST. IGNATIUS – A single-engine 1962 Beechcraft Bonanza airplane struck a power line and crashed in a hayfield near Pinehaven Lane at 4 p.m. on Aug. 29.

Three occupants were killed in the crash. Lake County Sheriff Don Bell released the names of the victims as Timothy R. Arnold, 59; Grant O. Weythman, 49; and Allen K. Eicher, 65. The three men were from Evansville, Indiana.

The airplane was upside down in the field when emergency responders arrived on the scene. Bell reported that the landowner loaned a backhoe to the responders so that they could tip the aircraft up and gain access to the victims.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash in conjunction with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The National Transportation Safety Board sent an investigator from California. The victims were transported to the Montana State Crime Lab.
