POLSON – Fifty-eight cowboys and cowgirls from around the state were in Polson on Saturday, Sept. 14, as the Montana High School Rodeo made a fall rodeo season stop at the fairgrounds.

Members of the Mission Valley High School Rodeo team turned in some impressive times and great performances during the single-day event.

In the first rodeo performance of the day, Ronan cowboy Trapper McCallister won the tie-down roping event with a time of 17.5 seconds. Kylie Lund, a Ronan cowgirl, picked up two runner-up finishes by scoring an 18.92-second ride in the barrel race and a 9.19-second time in the goat tying event. Lund also placed fourth in the breakaway event with a time of 12.87 seconds.

Polson bull rider Caden Fitzpatrick held on for a third-place 60-point ride in the bull riding event.

Morgan Shepard of Charlo placed seventh, and Cadence Schweigert of Polson finished eighth in the goat-tying event.

In the second go-around of the day, the team put in another strong showing as Polson cowboy Gavin Knutson teamed up with Andrew Witter of Helena to win the team roping event in a time of 17.28 seconds.

Lund wrapped up two first-place finishes with the breakaway event, a blazing time of 3.72 seconds, followed by a time of 8.77 seconds in the goat tying. Lund also added a fifth-place finish in the barrel race.

Shepard placed third in both the pole bending and goat tying, while Schweigert nabbed a fifth-place run in the barrel race.
