POLSON – After more than a year without a permanent city manager, the commission decided to work with Mercer Group recruiting firm to find a new city manager.

The City Manager Search Committee of Polson recommended the group. The group estimated the cost for the search as $16,500, plus expenses less than $8,000. The search committee recommended the group after reviewing proposals from several hiring firms.

All four members of the commission present voted to approve contracting with the firm.

Commissioner Jan Howlett thanked the search committee for their work to find a company.

“I have total faith. You guys were so very complete [in your decision],” Howlett said.

At the same meeting, the commission voted to approve the start of construction on a new building addition to the city’s golf course. Mission Valley Golf Course golf professional Cameron Milton told the commission he had raised all the funds necessary to start construction of an addition to the building. The funds came from private donations from the community. No city funds will be used for the project.

The new structure will hold a golf simulator, which will be used by the Mission Valley Junior Golfers Association for practice and by community members for a fee.

The MVJGA will build the structure and then donate it to the city. Milton said the project would be done by April 2020 at the earliest, and November 2020 at the latest. Milton added that the simulator would appeal to the community beyond those who are avid golfers. The simulator will offer basketball, football and soccer simulations, as well.
