The spirit of Thanksgiving was in full display Thursday throughout the Mission Valley as community volunteers delivered and served more than 1,000 free meals during the annual community Thanksgiving dinners in Polson, Ronan and St. Ignatius.

More than 200 volunteers made the day possible. Between cooking, serving and delivering, including topping off the pumpkin pies with whipped topping, volunteers gave back to their communities.

At the Ronan Community Center, Tribal Waves/YWAM hosted the Ronan community sit-down style meal where the traditional menu of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, bread, cranberries and pumpkin pie was served. For Michael Ramirez, volunteering at the meal was all about giving back and bringing cheer. “The Spirit of God moved me to come down here with my family to pay it forward and give a little back to the community,” said Ramirez.

Another Ronan resident said “It’s great for all to come together. We have a nice community.” She also liked seeing many people volunteering to give others a Thanksgiving dinner. Diners in Ronan also enjoyed music played by Jim Pettit and his Little Big Band.

At the Senior Citizen’s Center in St. Ignatius, more than 100 diners enjoyed the music of Tim Krantz and the Lyle Cronk family while feasting on a traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie.

The Polson Senior Center played host to one of the longest-running annual community Thanksgiving dinners held in the valley by serving about 400 people. Volunteers helped assemble and deliver more than 240 to-go Thanksgiving meals for all first responders, including the Polson police and medical workers, who had to report to work on Thanksgiving Day, along with those who were not able to attend the meal.
