PABLO – The Two Eagle River School Eagle and Lady Eagle basketball squads played host in their 14C conference to the Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings on Friday evening.

In the early game of the night, the Lady Vikings prevailed over a very young scrappy Lady Eagles team 57-8.

“I am very proud of my team,” said first year Lady Eagles head coach DJ Piapot. “We are a very young team full of eighth and ninth graders who played a state tournament caliber team.”

Charlo raced out to a 21-0 lead to start the game and finished the first half 39-0. The Lady Eagles’ defense stepped up in the third and fourth quarters holding the high-octane offense of the Lady Vikings to only 18 total second-half points.

Lady Eagle Sarah Gardipe scored all eight points for the Two Eagle River squad.

Lady Viking Carlee Fryberger finished with a game-high 15 points. Destiny Manual had 11 points. Liev Smith and Connor Fryberger each added nine points.

In the late game, the Vikings came out on top, holding off the Eagles 55-53.

“Back and forth action is what you want,” said Eagles head coach Camas McClure.

Two Eagle River held a 15-10 lead after the first quarter; however, the Vikings outpaced the Eagles 18-12 to take a 28-27 one-point lead into the locker room at the half.

The Eagles quickly regained the lead and held it throughout the third period. With a 44-39 advantage over the Vikings entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles saw a five-point lead evaporate during the last six minutes of the game as the Vikings hung on to earn the two-point 55-53 road victory.

After the game, coach McClure said his team played well even though they lost. “I thought we played aggressively on both sides of the ball,” McClure said. “We missed some key layups especially towards the end of the game that could have given us the win.”

Keaton Piedelue led the way for Charlo with 17 points. Nate Clark was the only other double-digit scorer for the Vikings as he finished with 12 points.

Michael Brown led Two Eagle River with a game-high 17 points. Anthony Charlo netted 13 points, and Sheadyn Croft chipped in with 10 points.
