Rodeo

The Mission Valley High School Rodeo team competed in a two-day rodeo event in Dillon on Sept. 26-27.

Polson cowgirl Cadence Schweigert posted two top-25 finishes on day one by scoring a 22nd place 19.36 time in the barrel race and a 10.32 time in the goat tying event. In day two events, Polson bull rider Caden Fitzpatrick scored a 74-point, first-place ride in the bull riding event. Ronan’s Trapper McAllister wrapped up a fourth-place finish in the tie down with a time of 18.88 seconds.

Schweigert nabbed two more top 25 finishes in the barrel race and goat tying events, finishing 23rd in the barrels with a time of 18.96 seconds and 19th in the goat tying with a time of 11.57 seconds.

Earlier in the month, the MVHS rodeo team hosted a single-day, two-rodeo event on Sept. 19 at the Ronan Rodeo grounds. In the first rodeo of the day, team roping duo Trapper and Jack McAllister placed third with a time of 21.53 seconds.

Mesa Bell raced to a 10th place finish with a time of 17.04 seconds in the barrel race followed by Schweigert in 15th with a time of 18.10 seconds. Schweigert also placed ninth in the goat tying event and fifth in pole bending with a time of 23.97 seconds.

Fitzpatrick held on for a second-place ride in the bull riding event with a score of 63 points, while Trapper McAllister also picked up a second-place finish in the tie down with a time of 18.43 seconds.

In the second go-around, Schweigert picked up a 23.77 fifth-place time in pole bending, sixth place in the breakaway with a time of 4.33 seconds, and in the goat tying event, she scored an eighth-place finish.

Bell grabbed two tenth place finishes with a 17.10-second ride in the barrel race and posting a 12.98 second time in the breakaway.

With a time of 17.23 seconds, the McAllister team placed second in team roping followed by Gavin and Rylie Knutson in third with a time of 34.78 seconds.

 

Volleyball

Polson Lady Pirates

In Whitefish, Berkley Ellis had 25 assists and 14 digs for the Polson Lady Pirates who earned a 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17 road victory against the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs in district play on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Maggie Todd totaled 10 kills and nine digs. Kobbey Smith finished with 17 digs and eight kills. Ara Mercer collected 21 digs.

Charlo Lady Vikings

Carlee Fryberger had five aces, nine digs, a block and five kills as first-place Charlo Lady Vikings defeated the visiting Noxon Lady Red Devils 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 in District 14C action on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Kassidi Cox contributed five kills, seven digs and five assists, and Conner Fryberger handed out 12 assists.

Arlee Scarlets

The Arlee Scarlets fell 3-1 (25-18, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22) in a non-league outing on the road against the Hot Springs Lady Savage Heat on Monday, Oct. 6. Jerny Crawford led the Scarlets with five aces, 11 kills and nine digs. Scarlet Xaria Jacobsen chipped in with 15 assists, three kills and five digs. Rheid Crawford posted three aces and 23 digs. Shonlea Matt added 12 digs and two aces.

 

Soccer

Polson Pirates

In the final game of the regular season on Thursday, the Polson Pirates were shut out on the road 6-0 by the Whitefish Bulldogs. The Pirates wrapped up the 2020 soccer season with an overall record mark of 2-7-1. The Lady Pirates were forced to cancel their game and season due to a COVID-19 quarantine. 

 

Football

Arlee Warriors

Arlee Warrior Colt Crawford scored a 41-yard rushing touchdown on the road Friday night. The Warriors fell 50-14 to the Clark Fork Mountain Cats. Noah Coulson also scored a one-yard rushing touchdown for the Warriors.

Ronan Chiefs

On Friday evening, the visiting Frenchtown Broncs defeated the Ronan Chiefs 34-14 in Class A football action.

Mission Bulldogs

In a 14C District matchup on Saturday, the Mission Bulldogs moved to a 4-3 record on the season with a 52-6 road win over the Plains Horsemen. Canyon Sargent caught two of Bulldog quarterback Kellen McClure’s three touchdown passes, and running back Bryce Umphrey scored two rushing touchdowns. 

The Mission defense also put points on the scoreboard with a safety and a touchdown on a Javon Bolen interception.

 

Cross Country

Arlee Hatchery Challenge Guppy Run

The Arlee High School cross country team hosted the Arlee Hatchery Challenge and Guppy Run on Thursday. A little more than a dozen schools competed in the annual cross country event that was open to middle school, junior varsity and varsity runners.

Both the Mission Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs took home first place hardware in the team standings. For the Bulldogs, Andrew Rush placed third with a time of 18:28.85 followed by Thomas Nuila (18:29.17) in fourth and Zoran LaFrombois (19:04.87) in fifth.

On the girls’ side, Lady Bulldog Cedar Hunt place third with a time of 23:11.34. Madyson Currie (24:56.64) and Kooper Page (27:06.43) round out the top ten finishers for the Mission girls. Guinevere Contreras finished with a seventh-place finish time of 25:03.96 for the Charlo Lady Vikings, while fifteenth place Princess Bolen (28:39.95) was the top finisher for the Arlee Scarlets.

Western A Invite

On Saturday, the Polson Lady Pirates cross country team placed third in the team standings during the Western A Invite hosted at Kalispell’s Rebecca Farms.

Halle Heninger was the top Lady Pirate finisher with a seventh-place finish time of 21:15.36 minutes. Rounding out the top 25 runners for Polson were Karli Owens (13; 22:11.68), Adison Carlson (14; 22:23.08), Ashtyn Wagner (16; 22:33.46) and Maddilyn Huffine (20; 22:47.98).

With a time of 21:54.32, Olivia Heiner booked a twelfth place finish for the Ronan Maidens followed by Brogen Youngren (21; 22:51.60).

For the boys, as a team, the Polson Pirates finished fifth and the Ronan Chiefs placed sixth. Ronan’s Zarec Couture notched a fifteenth place finish with a time of 18:00.02 followed closely behind by Polson Pirate Ryan Dupuis with a time of 18:00.11 for sixteenth place.
