RONAN — Girma Detwiler, a 2021 Ronan High School graduate, signed his national letter of intent recently to continue his athletic career at the collegiate level.
Detwiler will play basketball and compete in the long jump at the University of Providence Argos in Great Falls. The multi-sport athlete signed his letter during a small ceremony at the RHS event center on Monday, June 14.
Detwiler, who wants to pursue a business and marketing degree, couldn’t turn down the possibility of playing both sports for the Argos. It’s a rarity at the collegiate level, but one that Detwiler is looking forward to.
“I love their facility and their coaches,” said Detwiler. “Their winning mindset also attracted me to the program.”
On the hardwood, Detwiler played multiple years at the varsity level for the Chiefs and contributed to the basketball team’s success this season, which placed fourth in both the Western A Divisional and the State Class A boys basketball tournaments.
Detwiler was named to the Northwestern A All-conference second team for his performance this past winter, along with second place in the triple jump during both the Western A Divisional and State A track and field championships.
