RONAN — Crustacean connoisseurs gathered at the Ronan Fairgrounds for the annual Crab Fest on Friday evening.

“I love crab feeds,” said one participant who was waiting in line for a plate. “It’s a tasty and fun way to hang out with friends.”

The event is an annual community fundraiser organized and hosted by the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce. During the $40 a plate event, chamber volunteers served a little more than 250 guests with 500 pounds of opilio snow crab legs, along with melted butter, a generous bowl of baked beans, salad and bread. In addition to the meal, guests had a choice of desserts supplied by Stella’s Bakery and Deli.

Last year’s crab fest was washed out due to COVID-19, so people were ready to participate again this year, and event tickets sold out quickly.

About $10,000 was raised for community projects within the Ronan area through ticket sales. Specific projects haven’t been named yet, but past funds have gone to projects and organizations including the iconic Ronan arch repair, Ronan Fire Department, the Ronan Beautification Project and the Ronan City Parks Department.
