News from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office

BIG ARM — On Jan. 19 around 4 a.m., Lake County 911 received a report of a possible homicide-suicide at a residence in the Big Arm area.

79-year-old Florence Brown was shot and killed, and her son, 48-year-old Kirk Brown, had been shot but was still showing signs of life. Brown was transported by ambulance to an area hospital but died shortly thereafter.

The individuals shared the residence where the incident occurred.

Initial investigation has determined Brown shot and killed both his mother and her dog and then himself in a case of homicide-suicide, but further investigation is taking place by the Lake County Sheriff and Coroner’s office in conjunction with the State Medical Examiner in Missoula, where both bodies have been taken for autopsy.
