PABLO — It may be all new faces, but the results are the same for the Salish Kootenai College Bison.
With only Sonny Eppinette returning from last year’s American Indian Higher Education Consortium championship team, the new-look Bison started the season with two victories over the University of Montana-Western Bulldogs Friday and Saturday.
The Bison beat the Bulldogs 112-92 and finished the week with an 87-82 Saturday.
The Bison were led by Dennis Sangrey Friday. The 5-foot-10 guard from Rocky Boy finished with 24 points. Eppinette added 17 points and Shawn Blount had 16 points.
On Saturday, Jason Enright, a guard from Alaska, led the team with 20 points. Sangrey followed with 16 and Eppinette added 14. Eppinette, a 6-foot-6 center, finished in double digits in rebounding both games.
Bison coach Zach Conko-Camel said that his team looked really good and is expecting another strong year.
“Physically, were far ahead of where we were last year,” he said. “These guys really picked up the offense fast. They’re very intelligent and they do what it takes to win.”
