Rebecca 'Becky' Dawn Williams
POLSON — Rebecca "Becky" Dawn Williams passed away Dec. 27, 2009 at a dementia care facility in Missoula.

She was born in Washington in 1947. She soon moved to Montana, spending most of her school years in Polson. She graduated from Polson High School in 1966.
After graduation, she joined the Navy. Becky was very proud of her accomplishments while in the Navy and of being a veteran. She was stationed mostly around the Eastern seaboard, returning to Montana in 1994.
She lived and worked in Missoula, Seeley Lake and finally, Polson in 1999. She was elated to be back in her hometown. Becky truly loved people. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people, music, reading, sewing and gardening. Her favorite thing was helping people to build houses.
Becky coped with her disease for many years, fully understanding the outcome. She handled the decline with grace, dignity and strength. She was a "real trooper" and will be missed and respected by those that know her.
Becky is survived by husband, Terry; mother, Alice; son, Bryan; sisters Jane, Gale and Sam; brothers Mike, Jon and Mark; mother-in-law, Momo; step-daughter, Amy; step-grandson, Hunter; and her "boyfriends" and many other friends and relatives.
No services have been scheduled at this time.
Richard 'Pastor Dick' T. Hatlin
POLSON — Richard "Pastor Dick" T. Hatlin, 92, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at home.
Born August 24, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Thorvald and Hertha Walvig Hatlin, he enlisted in the Civil Conservation Corps and later in the Marine Corps.
He was a 31-year Veteran defending our nation in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam.
He recently received three college degrees proving that you’re never too old for educational endeavors.
His first wife, Audrey Lindeke Hatlin preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife, Julene Morrison Hatlin; daughters Rita (Gordon) Tobey and Marsha (John) Mosley and step-children Marlette, Brian, and Michele.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 1, 4-7 p.m. at Grogan Funeral Home. Funeral services with military honors will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Grogan Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Monday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery.

Pastor Rudolph "Rudy" Timothy Ringhoff
POLSON — Pastor Rudolph "Rudy" Timothy Ringhoff, 62, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009.

Rudy was born July 10, 1947 in Olympia, Wash. to Fred H. and Lydia Opal Ringhoff.
He graduated from Columbia High School in Burbank, Wash. attended LeTourneau College in Longview, Texas and graduated from Western Baptist Bible College. He then attended San Francisco Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated from Western Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary in Portland, Ore. with a Master of Divinity degree.
Rudy helped to put himself through seminary by driving tanker trucks for both the Arco and Texaco Oil Companies.
He married his high school sweetheart, Rita Soden on Aug. 9, 1969 and together had two children, Tim and Jennifer.
He counted it a privilege and a gift of the Lord to be able to serve Him in this beautiful valley and the dear people of First Baptist Church for almost 32 years. He loved all of you very much.
Rudy is preceded in death by his father; and sister, Zoe.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rita, of Polson; son, Tim (Rachelle) Ringhoff of Gretna, Neb.; daughter, Jennifer (Travis) Stidham of White Sulphur Springs; grandchildren Bryar, Ashton, Isabella, Trae, and Marena; mother, Lydia Opal Ringhoff of Everett, Wash.; sister, Mary (Ted) Reed of Everett, Wash.; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held, Dec. 21 with Pastor Rodney Myrum and Pastor Scott Craven officiating.

Aileen Johnson (Tamoto)
WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada — Aileen Johnson (Tamoto), peacefully passed away Dec. 10, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Aileen was a woman who lived her life with no regrets and followed her life passion to the fullest. At 22 years of age, Aileen began a long and wonderful career working with horses at various stables and race tracks across North America.
Working with horses was something Aileen found truly rewarding and comforting. It was also through her love of horses that she met and eventually married her husband, Bruce.
While the two spent the last few years living and caring for horses in Washington, they recently returned to their loved ones in Winnipeg to enjoy nearly eight precious months celebrating life with family and friends.
The family and friends graciously thank the staff and nurses of the St. Boniface Hospital Care Program for their kindness and making Aileen’s journey to heaven comfortable.
Aileen was loved my many friends and family members including husband, Bruce; parents Aki and Chiyoko; brothers Sam (Terry) and Glen (Agnes); sister, Jackie; best friend, Laverne; nieces Connie (Brent), Jessica, Crystal, Ashley and Nicole; nephews David and Quintin; stepsons Josh (Lindsey) and Tyler; and grandson, Waylon.
Bruce’s mother is Peg Johnson of St. Ignatius. Other local relatives include brothers and sister-in-law Dennis (Terri), Dale (Debbie), Mark (Andrea), Jerry (Val), Linda and John McKay and Donna and Don Coffman.
A funeral service for Aileen was held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Mosaic Funeral Cremation and Cemetery Services in Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, Aileen requested donations be made to D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Shelter in Winnipeg.
Gerald “Jerry” Kenmir
POLSON — Gerald “Jerry” Kenmir, 81, of Polson, passed away Monday, Dec.14, 2009 after a two-year battle with cancer at home with his wife by his bedside.
Jerry was born Jan. 11, 1928 in Grand Forks, N.D. to Thomas and Jane Ellen Kenmir. Jerry was a WWII Veteran.
He worked for American Plywood for 31 years and after many years in Gig Harbor, Wash., he and Delma moved to Polson. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman and was well known for his music.
Jerry was preceded in death by parents; sister, Florence; and brother, Larry.
He is survived by wife, Delma; children Tom Kenmir, Roxy (Henry) Martin, Doug Kenmir, Jim (Glenda) Kenmir, Verla (Marly) Gardner, and Brad (Pam) Kenmir.
A graveside service with military honors was held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at Polson's Lakeview Cemetery.

Richard Larsen
CHARLO — Richard Larsen, 89, of Charlo, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at his home.
He was born on March 18, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to the late Robert and Amelia Phillips Larsen. After graduating high school in 1938, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1944. He married Margaret A. McConnell, who passed away in November of 1999. He was a proud member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife; two brothers, one of whom was his twin; and two sisters.
He is survived by son, Richard Mark Larsen; and wife, Leigh, of Charlo.

Thelma Resner
Thelma E. Resner, 76, of Missoula, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at the Riverside Health Center in Missoula from natural causes.

Kathryn E. “Kathy” Ely Snyder
RONAN — Kathryn E. “Kathy” Ely Snyder, 52, passed away from a heart attack at her home on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009.
Born to Jim and Audrey (Stockton) Ely on July 2, 1957 in St. Ignatius, she was raised in Dixon and later Ronan where she attended schools.
She married Merlyn Snyder in Coeur d’Alene and they made their home in the Ronan area. She was a dedicated wife and mother.
Kathy worked for Second Chance in Ronan, for S&K Electronics as a seasonal worker and also cleaned houses by the lake.
She enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes and stories, collecting antiques and native art. But most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her grand kids.
She was preceded in death by parents, Jim and Audrey Ely; sister, Christy Ely Richardson; and brother, Leonard Newman.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Merlyn Snyder; kids big baby Richard Snyder, Merlyn Snyder (Shawn Field), Wendy (Darren) Orr, and little baby Jimmy Dean Snyder; siblings Bodie (Bobby) Ely, Steve Ely and Tammy (Henry) Courville; grandchildren Jodi, Landon, Cassidy, Troy, Abbie, Logan and Skylar as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A wake began Monday, Dec. 21 at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius with the Rosary being recited on Tuesday in the Longhouse. Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23 in the Longhouse.
Timothy L. Vaile
ARLEE — Timothy L. Vaile, 55, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 in Arlee.
Born and raised in Browning, he moved to the Jocko Valley over 10 years ago and made it his home.
He was preceded in death by parents Ennis and Catherine (Gobert) Vaile; brothers Virgil “Joe” Tatsey, Gerald Phil Guardipee and Frank Ennis Vaile; and nephew, Ronald John Tatsey.
Survivors include children Winter (Joey Ventura) Vaile, Yolanda Maestas; siblings John “Ugoh” Tatsey, Tom Nowlan, Jim Chris Vaile, John “Jack” Vaile and Ilona Vaile; sister-in-law Bernice Vaile; and aunt and uncle Elsie Vaile and Gary Gobert, Sr., and numerous family and friends from the Flathead and Blackfeet Reservations.
A traditional wake began Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Arlee Community Center with Rosary being recited Friday. Mass was held Saturday with burial following in the Jocko Cemetery.

Robert (Bob) L. Layman
RONAN — Robert (Bob) L. Layman, a 21 year Ronan resident, died Dec. 8, 2009.
He was born Sept. 7, 1918 to Roy and Lillian Layman of Alma, Mich., where he attended public schools. While still a teenager, Bob was a member of the Michigan National Guard Horse Cavalry, then from 1943 through 1945, he served in the Army Air Force during WWII.
On Feb. 2, 1940, Bob married Shirley M. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. They had two daughters, Nicholi (Nicky) and Lynette.
He is survived by wife, Shirley from Belle Fourche; daughter, Lynette Wing from Belle Fourche; grandchildren Justin Fritz, Rob Edington, Paula Schoenberner, Josh Fritz, Scottie Van Diest, Challise McDermott, Randy Wing, Kit Edington and Shane Edington; great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by daughter, Nicky Edington; and sisters Jane Napieralski, Louise Davenport, both of Alma, Mich. and Leah Freeman of Lawton, Okla.
There was an Honor Guard Ceremony at the Black Hills National Cemetery and a service with Chaplin Ralph Vencill officiating on Dec. 11.
A memorial has been established in Bob’s honor at the VA Medical Center, Attention: Voluntary Services, 113 Comanche Rd. Fort Meade, SD 57741. Checks can be made out to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Lillie M. Nester
RONAN — Lillie M. Nester, 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. She had been a resident of St. Luke Extended Care Facility.
Lillie was born on Dec. 20, 1922 in Tippo, Miss. to Joe Charlie and Lena Allison. Lillie married Lovell Nester on Dec.16, 1941.
She enjoyed making crafts and previously operated a craft shop.
Lillie loved to fish and did so almost everyday. She was a member of the VFW.
She was preceded in death by husband; parents; three sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by children, Linda (Bob) Allen, Mary (John) Meyers and JR Nester; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Harold “Sonny” Ray Peterson
POLSON — Harold “Sonny” Ray Peterson, 79, passed away suddenly Dec. 9, 2009, in Polson.
He was born March 8, 1930 to Auer and Eileen (Bosh) Peterson. He married Mary Elizabeth Nichol in 1950.
Sonny’s life was as colorful and varied as the man himself. He lived large, loved his family and adored his rodeo horses.
Sonny is survived by wife, Mary Peterson; children Vicky Siwy and Kent Peterson; brothers Ernest Peterson and David Peterson.
He was preceded in death by parents; daughter, Patricia; siblings Betty Lamont, Auerlene Peterson, Robert “Bob” Peterson and Richard “Dick” Peterson.
Visitation will be at Grogan Funeral Home, 101 6th Avenue East, Polson, Friday, Dec. 18. 9-7 p.m.
Funeral services will be Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8559 MT Highway 35, Bigfork, with visitation during the hour proceeding the service. Internment will immediately follow at Bigfork's Community Cemetery.

Shane Alex Fiddler
ARLEE — Shane Alex Fiddler, 35, passed away from an accident on Wednesday, Dec. 2, while working in Glacier County.

Shane was a great teacher, loving friend and an amazing father. He had a beautiful smile and a great laugh. Shane will be in our hearts forever.
Graduating from Arlee High School in 1992, Shane became an excellent carpenter that loved to build and create things.
Shane was preceded in death by aunts Lynn Shelby and Sandy Morigeau Adams; and uncles Rusty Fiddler, Dennis, Dale and Gary Shelby.
He is survived by children McKayla, Shalee and Isabella; parents Deeda and Neil Adams and Wally Couture; girlfriend, Kelly Casey; grandmother, Cora Couture; brothers Joe Don (Kimberly) and Chad Couture; and sisters Sam Shelby (Brittany) and Tara Couture.
A wake began Dec. 4 in Arlee and rosary was recited. Mass was held on Dec. 7 with burial in the Jocko Cemetery.

POLSON — Ruth Hall, 92, of Polson, passed away on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 from natural causes.
A vigil service will be held Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Father Jim Connor officiating.

Charles Robert Yancy
ST. IGNATIUS — Charles Robert “Bob” Yancy, born to Rebecca and Clyde Yancey on Sept. 22, 1949, passed away on Dec. 3, from cancer.

Bob married his teenage sweetheart, Jimmie Carol Pool. They had two daughters and lived most of their lives in California. Bob was a truck driver most of his life.
After many years of marriage they went their separate ways.
Bob moved to Marshall, Ark. and met his companion, Helen Harris. They moved to Montana on their mission to build their lives somewhere good for his boys.
Bob is survived by companion, Helen; children Danny, Malachi and Laura (Jesse) Olivera, Paytra (John) Starkel; sister, Jerry (John) Cole; brothers Eddie Yancey, Joe (Donna) Yancey and Johnny Yancey.
Bob was preceded in death by parents Rebecca and Clyde Yancey; and brothers Billy, Jackie, and Tommy Yancey.
Cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned.
Ronda L. Burtch
DIXON — Ronda L. Burtch, 42, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula of cancer and pneumonia surrounded by family.

She was born June 15, 1967 in St. Ignatius to Dick and Tiny Burtch. She attended elementary school in Dixon, then graduated from Mission High School, where she was proud to be a Mission Bulldog cheerleader.
She had her first child, a daughter named Kyla in 1984. She married Shawn Malatare in 1987 and they had a son, Sean Wren, in 1991. They divorced in 1997.
In high school, Ronda started working road construction with her family's business. She also worked for Riverside and Schellinger Construction. Her dad helped his two daughters start their own road construction business, with contracts in Montana, Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Ronda worked the jobs until she became ill and had to quit.
She was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and worked on the tribal election as a judge. She also bartended throughout the years.
Ronda loved the outdoors. She loved camping — especially cooking over a campfire, fishing, traveling to and exploring places she had never been. She also loved gardening, cooking, going to the Plains Demo Derby — which she drove in, watching her "who dunnit" movies and TV shows, and spending time with her family, friends and animals.
Ronda was a loving and caring person. She was kind and had a generous heart that would help anyone. The center of her life was her family. She loved them all very much, as they loved her. Her motto was "Family First."
She was called home after a courageous battle with cancer, to be under her dad's wings and to be with her guardian angel, Gerry. She was such a strong person during her illness.
Ronda was preceded in death by her father, Richard "Dick" Burtch; baby brother and sister; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
She is survived by mother, Tiny; daughter, Kyla (Gary); granddaughter, Shakira; son, Sean Wren Malatare; sister, Tina (Randy); nieces Kaylee (Trevor), Siarra and Shantayla; uncles Dennis St. Germaine and John Juhauz; aunts; uncles; cousins; friends; soul mate and best friend, Deni; and her dog, Zoey.
Rosary will be Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. with Mass on Friday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m., both to be held at the Catholic Church in St. Ignatius.
A dinner at the Longhouse will follow the services. Ronda was cremated and will be buried at a later date. No flowers, please.
Theresa Marie Andrew Stasso
ELMO — Theresa Marie Andrew Stasso, 66, of Elmo, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center from natural causes.
Born March 21, 1943 in St. Ignatius, to Charles and Mary Lefthand Andrew, she attended the Urseline School in St. Ignatius.
She moved to Idaho and then Wyoming, where she met and married her husband, Larry Heron. They later divorced and she moved back to the Flathead Reservation.
She loved to shop and pick huckleberries. She was a proud member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
She is preceded in death by parents; sister, Annie Tenas; and husband, Peter Stasso.
She is survived by sisters Louise Andrew, Cathy Andrew, and Diane Auld; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Margaret Ann (Howard) Vaughan
RONAN — Margaret Ann (Howard) Vaughan, died peacefully on Nov. 21, 2009 at St. Luke’s Extended Care in Ronan, with family by her side.

She was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to Pat and Sally Howard (Flossie Cottingham.) She graduated from South High School and later graduated from Michigan State University. She married Paul R. Vaughan on June 18, 1959, and they had three sons.
Margaret was as a school teacher for a short time until the family moved to Mankato, Minn. After they divorced, she then lived in Escondido, Calif., Fresno, Calif. and finally moved to Montana. She never remarried.
Margaret was always fond of music and singing. She spent many years with Sweet Adeline in Mankato, Minn. where she attended several regional competitions. Her love for music was surpassed perhaps only by her love for the Lord.
Singing in the choir and serving in ministry brought her great joy. Her most recent service included a mission trip to Romania to help build a church with Teen Challenge. She also served locally in her community as a Foster Grandparent helping children read at Glacier View Christian School. She was a member of Mission Valley United Methodist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by parents Pat and Sally Howard; brothers Gerry, Robert, and Jim Howard; and sister, Phyllis Davis.
She is survived by sisters Sue (Bruce) Bruscia, Sally Pasco, and Janet Darby; sons Timothy (Robin), Peter, and David (Amy) Vaughan; grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, Hannah, and Philip Vaughan and Rishley Cain; along with many nieces and nephews.

POLSON — Marge Plank, 93, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at St. Luke’s Extended Care Facility in Ronan.
Marjorie (Marge) Valerie Elmore was born August 17, 1916 in Ida Grove, Iowa to William and Ethel Elmore.
Marge was vivacious and full of joy, gentle and loving.
Marge is preceded in death by mother, Ethel Stein; brother, Derrill; and her beloved husband, Paul.
She is survived by daughters Donna Bahm, Colleen (Blackie) Pollreisz, and Polly (Larry) Robinson; grandchildren Jessie Stinger, Martin (Sue) Pollreisz, Monte Bahm, Valene (Ed) Laughlin, Janalee (Chris) Ellenwood, Shane (Kimberly) Robinson, Shonna (Dodd) Elverud, Paul Blue (Christina) Robinson; 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; and sisters Clarice Kimes and Annette Gobert.

Sophie “Supi” Quequesah
RONAN — Sophie “Supi” Quequesah Mays, 56, went to be with our ancestors Nov. 30, 2009.
Sophie Quequesah
Supi dedicated her life teaching the Salish language. She was a Salish Language Professor throughout the Flathead Indian Reservation.
Supi is survived by husband David Eugene Mays; children Lawrence (Lonnie), Nick, Pam (Alfred Woodcock), Doug (Amanda), Dan (Evelyn Charlo); brothers Alex (Betty), Tom (Linda Ferris), Charlie (Sonia) and Jerome.
Supi was preceded in death by parents, Ignace and Anastasia (Finley) Quequesah; siblings Susan, John, Mose, Mike, Mary Sue, Martina, Teresa, Pete, Joe, Louie, Tom, and Nick.
Memorials may be made to the NKWUSM Language Immersion School.

POLSON — Sylvia Goelitz Stanley, 87, of Polson, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at St. Joseph Retirement Community.
Born May 20, 1922, in Rochester, N.Y., to Walter A. Goelitz and Hazel Graser Goelitz, Sylvia attended Bayside High School. Staying in New York until 1946, she moved to Missoula and in 1949, married Philip Stanley.
Next to her family, bridge, teaching, bowling and volunteering were her enjoyment in life.
Her father; mother; sister, Jackie; and husband, Phil precede Sylvia in death.
Sylvia is survived by sister, Gloria McGann; children, Stephen Stanley, Carol Stockdale; grandchildren Shari Erickson, Kaleb McCammant and Nicole Stanley; great-grandchildren Kyle, Kaden, and Amy Lynn.
A memorial service for Sylvia is planned in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breast Cancer Research or St. Joseph Retirement Community in Polson. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com
Desiree Paullynn Wheeler
ST. IGNATIUS — Desiree Paullynn Wheeler, newborn, was made an angel on Sunday, Nov. 22 when she was born prematurely at St. Luke’s Community Hospital in Ronan.
She was greeted in heaven by sister, Lesha Wheeler; uncle, Paul Wheeler; and grandfather, Bill Wheeler.
She is survived by parents Donna Cook and Shane Wheeler; brother, Marvin; sisters Jessica and Julianne; grandparents Judy (Terry) Wallaser, all of St. Ignatius; and Claudia and Roger Cook of Missoula.
The family is planning a service to be held next summer and will announce the time prior to the service.
