‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. ST. IGNATIUS — Music in the Missions in St. Ignatius starts at 5 p.m. We aim to create a sense of unity and purpose among community members by coming together through music, food, and art. We hope to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable land management and wildlife conservation. Opening for Music in the Missions will be Kyle Hunter and The Mountain Standard from 5-6:30 p.m. Next up will be Paul Bryant and Kentucky Border from 7-8:30 p.m. For the finale, we will have The Tanner Laws Band from 9-10:30 p.m. There will be a corn hole tournament with a $500 first place prize, a $200 second place prize and a $50 third place prize. Free hamburger feed held in Big Arm

Participate in ‘Pollinator Week’ program

POLSON — On Saturday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. Pollinator Week Program will take place at the North Lake County Public Library. The Lake County Conservation District is hosting a 90-minute workshop. Learn to identify and track pollinators, their habitats and how to participate in local citizen science initiatives. This workshop will have a short lecture, hands-on learning with the tracking technology, followed by a pollinator walk. This event is open to all ages and backgrounds. 

Plains Wildhorse Shootout held

PLAINS — The Mission Valley 3-on-3 Wildhorse Shootout, held in conjunction with the Wildhorse Sports Association, takes place on Saturday June 22, at the Amundson Sports Complex. Divisions will include 1st grade through adult. Entry deadline is June 8 at 8 p.m. Entry fee is $160 (plus $5 transaction fee if paid online). POLSON— The Moms Connect Wellness Series is a 5-week series, June 11-July 9, from 5-7 p.m. This free traveling wellness series focuses on different dimensions of health. Childcare and dinner are provided. Register at familiesfirstmt.org. On June 25 the meeting will be about fitness and meet at Mission Valley Aquatic Center. Our next speaker is author Charles Garner who recently wrote the book titled “A Canary in a Coal Mine - Hope for a Culture in Free Fall,” which is a book on how we can still save our Country. Charles is also a curriculum designer, and a teacher to the church. Please feel free to bring lunch/drinks to the meeting. ‘Faith, Farmin’ & Freedom’ theme for annual 4th of July Parade in Charlo

CHARLO — The theme for the 2024 Charlo 4th of July Parade is “Faith, Farmin’ & Freedom.” There will be tractors, animals, and all the farm goods. The American Legion Post 126 will set up at 9 a.m. to sell raffle tickets for guns, fishing poles and many other great prizes with winners announced after the parade. Be sure to grab a cold drink from the Branding Iron. The Charlo football team will fry up burgers and the Charlo volleyball team will serve Grandma Nancy’s delicious frybread starting at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at noon. 4th of July Parade planned in Arlee

ARLEE — “Salute of Freedom” is the theme of the 75th annual Arlee Fourth of July Parade.  Registration will be at Arlee High School entryway, with parade line up beginning in the parking lot. The parade begins at high noon, traveling south on Fyant Street turning west onto Bouch before turning north and returning to the high school via Morigeau Street. Parade categories consist of: Patriotic, Clubs and Organizations, Commercial, Western entry, Native American entry, Novelty Humorous.

Trophies will be awarded at the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum following the parade. While waiting for the trophy presentations, take a step back in time and tour the museum, which will be open on July 4 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

A meet and greet for our veterans will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Arlee Jocko Museum, on the corner of Bouch and Fyant.  Veterans will gather at 10:30 a.m. for a group photo and to visit with community members.  Veterans will then be honor as the Grand Marshals of the annual parade.

Arlee Jocko Valley Museum opens

ARLEE — The opening of the Arlee J0cko Valley Museum for the 2024 season will be on July 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The historic church/museum building houses a continuous photo and artifacts display of veteran memorials, homesteaders, and Native Americans. Veterans honored at Arlee Celebration

ARLEE — The fourth day of the Arlee Celebration begins with the Snake Dance (inter-tribal/social dancing) honoring all veterans at 2 p.m. At 7 p.m. Charlie Quequesah will speak at Traditional Night about honoring the ways of the Salish people. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on premises.

Watch Polson’s 4th of July parade

POLSON — Come watch the annual Fourth of July Independence Day Parade on Main Street beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 4. The streets line with families and children eager to collect candy and watch all the fun and creative parade floats. Individuals/ groups/ businesses/ organizations, etc. can register to join the parade lineup by filling out the parade registration form at polsonchamber.com and paying a $20 fee.
