POLSON – It's been a little more than three months since Jeff and Cody Blodgett opened Sparks Power Sports, a small engine repair business on the corner of Main Street and 8th Avenue East. The two men are not just business partners; they are father and son.

“We just kind of teamed up,” Jeff said.

The Blodgetts saw a need for another repair shop in the area, so they transformed the once run-down property into a one-stop small engine repair shop. “We liked this building a lot,” Jeff said. “It was dilapidated. We reclaimed it and got it back up to code.” The shop repairs included an extensive amount of painting, electrical and plumbing improvements, new heating and cooling systems, security updates and signage.

The father/son team says they can repair just about anything that sparks - including push mowers, riding mowers, snowblowers, pressure washers, generators, ATV, UTV, dirt bikes, chainsaws, vintage motorcycles and even the occasional weed whacker.

“We basically work on any small engine,” Cody said. He studied motorcycle and small engine repair at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix.

Jeff added they are taking on projects that no one else wants to work on. He looks forward to every call he gets and finds it gratifying to fix something that’s not working. “I wish we could capture some of the looks on people’s faces as we fire up bikes that haven’t run for over 20 years.”

In addition to the engine repair operation, they also sell a wide range of electric and gas-powered motorized golf carts. Jeff and Cody also offer winterizing services for both "dirt and water toys," along with pre-season checks on generators and snowblowers.

Sparks Power Sports shop is located at 711 Main Street, Polson, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.
