Ronan kicks off cross-country season with canal run
RONAN — If asked what the prettiest cross-country meet is of the season, many would agree the Canal Bank Run just out of Ronan ranks in the top. Backed by the beauty of the Mission Mountains and the gentle sound of water easing its way down the canal, runners are met with unspoiled landscape propelling them to enjoy their run to the fullest.
This season’s canal run hosted teams from Ronan, Frenchtown, Hamilton and Mission, with Hamilton taking top spots in both the boys’ and girls’ races.
Maiden Penny Weyent faired the best for Ronan, placing seventh among the girls with a time of 25:22. Rounding out the top 15 was Kaitlyn Sassaman, clocking a time of 25:32 to put her in ninth; Kaitlyn Graham came in at tenth (26:01); and finishing with a time of 28:14 and sharing the 14 spot were Ysabelle Burland and Korrie Frisk. The girls’ team placed second with an overall team score of 55.
Although the boys did not qualify for a team score because there were not enough runners in their group, they still placed two in the top 15 with Jackson Duffey logging a time of 18:45 — good for an 11th place — and Nate Dennis finishing in 13th with a time of 19:41.
No Mission scores were given.
Ronan’s next meet will be in Eureka Sept. 5. Then they will be joined by Mission and other valley teams as they host a meet at the Mission Mountain Golf Course Sept. 11.
