POLSON — When Patsy Miller learned of her stomach and liver cancer from her oncologist, he asked if there was anything that would help.
“Yes,” she said, “A Bud Light and red fingernails.”
That definitely is not your everyday response, but that’s Patsy. Her oncologist brought her the beer, and the nurses painted her fingernails — something she couldn’t do at her job as a cook.
Patsy, who has cooked at the Confederated Salish and Kootenai senior centers in Hot Springs, Ronan and Polson, has fixed delicious meals for years. Her sassy attitude, care for her seniors and coordinated outfits are well known.
Friends held a benefit spaghetti dinner and auction at the Elks Club in Polson on Sept. 6.
Another event, a day to honor Patsy Miller, will be held at the Ronan Tribal Senior Center on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Friends and family are invited to bring a potluck dish.
For people who would like to help, a Community Bank account has been set up for donations for Patsy as she battles cancer. Send checks to P.O. Box B, Ronan, or drop cash at the Ronan, Polson or Pablo bank locations.
