ST. IGNATIUS — St. Ignatius has named a veteran police officer as its new police chief.
C.P. “Ski” Kuczynski is expected to come on duty in the next couple of weeks.
Kuczynski comes to the department after working for several departments in Montana, Minnesota and Arkansas. Kuczynski has served as assistant chief of police for the East Helena Police Department, special agent for a drug task force, and chief of police in Dassel, Minnesota. He worked as a marshall for the Wheatley Marshall Service.
Kuczynski got his start in law enforcement after serving in the United States Air Force as a police canine dog supervisor.
“With all his years of experience, I’m really hoping he may be able to turn our police department around where it’s a fully functional police department,” Mayor Charley Gariepy said.
Gariepy said the town’s part-time officer will continue working for the department. The town has been without a police chief since early June when Jeffrey Ferguson left for a position in Rosebud County.
