Editor,

As an operator of a powerboat on Flathead Lake for many years, I find it terrible that there are so few locations where gasoline is available for boaters. During the peak of the summer, gas was available at the Best Western in Polson and in Lakeside, Woods Bay and Bigfork.  If gas is not obtainable in Polson, it may take half a tank to get to Lakeside, or one of the other locations at the north end of the Lake. The Best Western closed gas sales for the summer just after Labor Day, though the lake was up, and the weather was warm and sunny. This is unacceptable. At least maintain a self-service pump for the boating public.

The city of Polson should make an effort to develop another source of marine gas at the south end of the lake for boaters, both residents and tourists. We have an untapped market for the use of our waterfront and related activities, and it’s a shame that those who enjoy activities on the water are unable to refuel their watercraft whenever our sole source of gas is unavailable.
