RONAN — The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition is offering a Native American Film Series at Entertainer Cinema in Ronan throughout October.

Admission is free; children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Schedule:

• Sunday, Oct. 12, 1 p.m. — “Smoke Signals”

In this classic comedy, Thomas and Victor leave home on an unforgettable adventure of friendship and discovery. After the film, Native playwright William S. Yellowrobe, Jr. will lead a discussion.

• Sunday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m. — “Dakota 38”

Jim Miller and a group of riders retrace the 330-mile route from lower Brule, South Dakota to Mankato, Minnesota, on the anniversary of the largest mass execution in US history. The film was created to encourage healing and reconciliation.

• Saturday, Oct. 25, 1 p.m. — “Winter in the Blood”

The movie, based on the novel by James Welch directed by Alex and Andrew Smith, was shot on the Hi-line in northern Montana. It’s a contemporary tale of a man on a modern-day vision quest who ultimately recovers his true identity, renews the bond between himself and the land and makes peace with the winter ghosts that haunt him. (There is a possibility the theater may have a personal appearance by an actor or crew member.)The film series is sponsored jointly by Polson Theatres and the Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition, Inc. FRHRC is a 501c3 non-profit organization providing educational events to promote the broadest possible community acceptance of the multi-cultural nature of this community and to celebrate the positive benefits of living together in such a community.
