Local powerlifters shine at Missoula meet

MISSOULA — Young and old powerlifters from the area were able to take home first-place trophies at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters Montana Championships at Ruby’s Inn in Missoula March 6.
Arlee 10-year-old Naomi Plant benched 55 pounds for not only first place in her age division, but also for a state record.
Ronan’s Harold Smith won the 75-79 age group by benching 336 pounds. Smith’s bench press was also a world record.
Virginia Cornelius, 71, won the women’s 68-74 bench press and dead lift. Cornelius’ deadlift of 148.5 pounds set a Montana record. Cornelius, from Ronan, set the state record in the bench press at the meet last year.
Arlee’s Joe Pablo Jr. won the men’s 33-39 with a bench of 352 pounds. Ike Pablo finished in second with a bench of 336 pounds.
Ronan’s Skip Schacher placed first in the men’s 68-74 with a bench of 177 pounds.
