POLSON — It’s almost Thanksgiving, and the Polson Community Thanksgiving dinner planners are checking their lists.

Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Polson Senior Center, 504 Third Ave. E. on Nov. 27. Everyone is invited, and the dinner is free, although they do accept donations.

This year 36 turkeys will be roasted for the day.

“Ordinarily, we’re able to get really big birds, but this year the turkeys were a whole lot smaller,” organizer Tracy Plaiss said.

The dinner is a put on by the Polson Senior Center and the Polson Ministerial Association. It’s a true community event since area church congregations provide most of the pies, rolls and other food, Plaiss said.

“Everything for this dinner is made from scratch,” Plaiss said.

Jo Durand and Kay Stamm work in the kitchen at the Polson Senior Center, making stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and work with the turkey carving crew.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church youth come to peel potatoes on Thanksgiving Eve, and the Lake family donates the potatoes. Plaiss said Polson Super 1 is always a major contributor to the dinner, too. Also Franz Bakery donated 75 loaves of bread, which the senior center cooks will toast for stuffing.

Plaiss said the organizers could use donations of salads and side dishes and also volunteers for Thanksgiving Day, either for an hour or the whole day.

Please call Plaiss as soon as possible at 406-471-2333 to donate food or time.

Homebound Polson people who need a dinner delivered or someone who needs a ride to the senior center should call 406-883-4735.
