PABLO — Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call at 8:12 a.m. Friday. The call reported a man with a shotgun outside Salish Kootenai College housing on Hewankorn Loop.
Dispatchers used emergency tones so deputies responding were the only ones who could talk; everyone else just listened, according to Karen Sargeant, Lake County public information officer. A man was arrested, but he turned out to be the wrong person. As of lunchtime on Friday, the LCSO deputies were still looking for the other man. There was no search or pursuit, Sargeant said. Deputies just wanted to ask him some questions.
In the meantime, SKC went into lockdown mode, which was later changed to a “soft” lockdown where doors were locked and people entering buildings had to show student or staff IDs.
SKC continued with its tailgate event in conjunction with the Founder’s Celebration Basketball Classic tournament, and it was business as usual at the college, according to Robert McDonald, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal communications director.
The incident was taken seriously, and no one was hurt. The incident was also a good test of LCSO tones and a check of SKC protocols.
